writing for action

writing for action scenes

Here’s an example of my composition against a high octane action cue.

Working out the approach, even simply setting up the tempo map, is all part of building a great action cue that brings the energy of the picture into a new light.

I wrote my first action cue when I was at Bury College, working to DAT. The film example was Terminator. The next opportunity I got to use as an excercise was Blade Runner, at Dartington College of Arts.

This competion entry of mine captures the pace, energy and needed for all great action scenes – and of course a gesture towards a hero melody.
